We have all been taught that Yshua was asking His Father why He had forsaken Him.  But, is that what really happened? Let's read Matthew 27:46 in the new King James Version:

 

Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"

 

Now let's read it from the Restoration Scriptures True Name Edition Study Bible {RSTNSB}:

 

Yshua cried with a loud voice saying, My El-Yahuweh, My El-Yahuweh, lemana-shabakthani?  That is to say, My El-Yahuweh, why are You keeping Me?

 

That sure is a big difference! We miss out on so much in the English translation.

 

Let's see what the Notes from the RSTNSB states: "Going with the Aramaic and not the Greek. In the Aramaic Yahshua is basically asking why the suffering is continuing so long. He is not accusing YHWH of forsaking Him,  nor is He confused into thinking that He is being forsaken, since He is YHWH and knows the Father's plan. The One who said that the Father would never leave Him alone even if all the disciples did, would never claim to be forsaken. Since it cannot mean forsaken, the word shabakthani can also mean keeping me, or preserving me. In this context, this is the obvious meaning. Since Yahshua would never accuse, or believe that YHWH had forsaken Him, Psalm 2 can still be seen as a narrative of the suffering servant, but the literal words of Psalm 22:1-2 would never come out of Yahshua's mouth. In this case, the evidence of the Aramaic meaning is clearly superior to the Greek, and substantiates that Yahshua requested a quickening of His suffering {in its 6th hour}, as opposed to an accusation against YHWH of being forsaken."

 

Psalm 22:1 states:

Eli-Yahuweh Eli-Yahuweh; Lama azaviani, and are far from saving Me and from the words of My roaring?

 

Let's look at the RSTNSB Note for Psalm 22:1-2: "My El-Yahuweh, My El-Yahuweh, why have You left me here for so long?" The folks near the execution stake thought He called for Elijah {Matthew 27:46-49}. Elijah in Hebrew is Eli-Yahu so we can know that He was calling for someone whose name sounded almost indistinguishable from Eli-Yahu, thus the rendering of Eli-Yahuweh."

 

It makes more sense to me that He had asked His Abba why He was keeping Him for so long and not that He thought His Abba had forsaken Him! How can He forsake Yshua when they are One? Yshua knew what His Abba's plan was, that's why He cried out in the Garden of Gethsemane, " O My Abba, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless not as I will, but as You will."

 

He even told His disciples beforehand that He was to die, be in the grave three days and three nights, and then rise from the dead. He knew what would happen. He was just asking why it was taking so long.

 

YHVH may have turned His face from Yshua's suffering because He could not look on His suffering, and Yshua may have felt that way, He couldn't say His Abba would forsake Him. He would never forsake Yshua as they are Echad, One, united together.

 

Since they are Echad, united together and His Abba promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us, do you really think that His Abba would forsake Him in His time of greatest need? Somehow, I just cannot see that happening, can you?

 

If Yshua's Abba would forsake Him, then how could we believe that He will not forsake us also in our time of greatest need? No, He never forsook Yshua when He was on the execution stake, just as He will never leave us during our time of greatest need.

 

Aren't you relieved to know that?
